It’s no surprise—as more and more of us read about the benefits of salt lamps, we’re eager to purchase a salt lamp for ourselves. But what may come as a surprise is the discovery that not all salt lamps are alike. In fact, the quality of the salt in your salt lamp makes all the difference in the world between an authentic natural Himalayan salt lamp and an inferior imitation.
It all comes down to one simple fact: You want to be sure the salt your lamps are crafted from is of the highest quality suitable for crafting these beautiful products.
A Story as Old as Time
Millions of years ago, when the sun caused the water evaporation of the Primal Sea, salt began to settle on the ground in layers and other sediments, such as calcium, potassium and gypsum, began to mix with sodium chloride—more commonly known as salt. Today, much of that salt is mined and used for a wide variety of purposes, including the making of salt lamps.
However, not all salt is the same. The salt that is mined from inferior mines can contain all of the impurities cited above and is therefore sold cheap. A salt lamp made from this inferior product is little more than a knickknack, a far cry from the natural Himalayan salt lamps that we offer at Himalayan Salt Cart!
By contrast, the salt used in our lamps is mined 5,000 feet deep below the Himalayan Mountain Range has been subject to enormous pressure for millions of years, is over 99% pure, and is therefore ideal for use in ionization and air purification. In fact, the greater the pressure that salt has undergone, the better, more balanced will be the state of order within its crystalline structure.
